Limits by age
Self, spouse and children: up to ₹25,000, or ₹50,000 if you are a senior citizen. Parents: an additional ₹25,000, or ₹50,000 if they are senior citizens. A preventive health check-up of up to ₹5,000 is included within these limits.
Old regime only
Section 80D is an old-regime deduction. Payment must be by a mode other than cash, except for the preventive check-up.

Self and family: lower of (premium + check-up) and ₹25,000 (₹50,000 if senior)
Parents: lower of premium and ₹25,000 (₹50,000 if senior)
Tax saved = deduction × slab rate × (1 + 4% cess)
