- Employee contribution = 12% of wages each month, starting at ₹4,800.00.
- Employer's 12% is split: 8.33% of wages (on at most 15,000) goes to the pension scheme (EPS) and the rest to EPF.
- Interest at 8.25% is worked out on the running monthly balance and credited at the end of each year. Wages grow 6% a year.
- After 28 years: corpus ₹2,29,59,240.22 = opening balance ₹3,00,000.00 + employee ₹39,47,219.23 + employer ₹35,27,387.23 + interest ₹1,51,84,633.76.
- The EPF interest rate is declared each year by the government; enter the current rate. The EPS pension part is not included in this corpus.
How EPF contributions work
You contribute 12% of your basic salary and dearness allowance, and your employer contributes 12% too. Of the employer's share, 8.33% of wages (on up to 15,000) goes to the pension scheme (EPS) and the balance goes to your EPF account.
How the interest is credited
The government declares the EPF rate each year. Interest is worked out every month on the running balance and credited to your account at the end of the year, so the calculation here follows the same pattern.
Formula
Monthly employee contribution = wage × employee %
Employer to EPF = wage × employer % − 8.33% × min(wage, 15,000)
Interest each month = running balance × EPF rate ÷ 12, credited at year end
Where:
- wage
- = Monthly basic + dearness allowance
- 8.33%
- = Employer share that goes to the Employees' Pension Scheme (on wages up to 15,000)
